Joyriders was founded in 1979 by Daphne Davey and Anita Morrison. Daphne continues to serve Joyriders as an assistant instructor and rider coordinator and Anita as an honourary life member and constant friend of the program. We are an incorporated non-profit organization and a registered charity. Since it began, hundreds of volunteers and dozens of riders have been part of the program. The Rotary Club of Charlottetown has supported Joyriders from the outset. Joyriders was a founding member of the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) in 1980. Our head instructor, Kathryn Barrett, and all of the assistant instructors are certified by CanTRA. Trish Helm-Neima acts as the physiotherapist for the program and is also an assistant instructor. Since 1995 the Joyriders program has been based at the Winsloe Equestrian Centre.
